Four members founded the Post KFD over 25 years ago. It was initially a way to provide the children of the Post a day to have fun and learn how to fish. Since then, it has grown into a public community event that the Post schedules every year, where children from the community get to come out to have a fun-filled day of fishing and enjoying the outdoors.
On the day of the KFD, children will come to the lake and fish. During the event, food is provided for everyone who attends. We provide a meal that typically consists of a burger, hot dog, baked beans, potato salad, chips, and drinks.
After fishing is over, which usually consists of a few hours, we will gather the children for awards and gifts. We will give out unique trophies for specific categories such as biggest fish, smallest fish, etc.
Additionally, every child will receive a participation trophy, a fishing pole, and a tackle box with some starter tackle.
After the trophy and gift presentation, we try to get everyone together for the KFD yearly photo and say our goodbyes until next year.
The 2023 KFD is scheduled for 10:00 am Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, at Camp Carlson, Ft Knox, KY. Children up to ages 15 can register at the Post, Sandowsky Field house on Ft Knox, or by emailing the form to vfwpost10281@gmail.com
